I tackled a project on Friday night that I had not been able to do in the past couple of weeks: Slipcovers. Two of them.
Note: It's a sign that you are growing older when you are thrilled to have a weekend at home so that you can play with your new slipcovers on a Friday night. My excuse for not being a loser: my husband is studying a lot right now. Being at home is okay.
Anywhoodle, I have 2 chairs that my Grandma gave me when she redecorated her house. I am a VERY lucky girl to have a grandma that donated her couch, coffee table and two chairs to a newlywed in need. Her couch and coffee table fit perfectly with my style and our home. And the two chairs have honestly matched my living room perfectly. We've been blessed and thrilled to have her furniture. It reminds me of visits to her house.
I remember falling asleep on her couch, with my brother's head on my shoulder, when we were teenagers and we pretended to hate each other. She has a picture of it that makes me smile.
I digress. Back to the chairs.
Despite my love for the chairs, the truth is, flame-stitch isn't my preferred fabric. These are high-quality, comfortable, made very well and will continue to last a long time, so buying new ones is not an option at all. And some say flame-stitch is making a comeback. But, I have just been dying to see what the room would look like if these chairs were given a clean slate.
Now, if I had oodles of money sitting around, I'd recover them in a heartbeat. But, I don't. And, making a new fabric decision, one that I'll be happy with for a long time, makes me nervous. So, I went the slipcover route.
40 bucks per chair is a lot better than $400+ if you ask me.
And they turned out pretty great, I think.
There's just no way a slipcover is ever going to look perfect, wrinkle-free, and tuck in all the right spots. It's like wearing a one-size-fits-all t-shirt. But, with a little bit of work and my awesome steamer, I think these fit the bill.
And it makes my living room feel refreshed, casual and more "us."
Grandma, what do you think of their new look?
