Razorback Wreaths

Hello there! What a glorious long weekend this has been. I've caught myself up on laundry, grocery shopping, down time, cooking, dinner with friends, and a really fun craft project! Now that Keith's sister is home from college, we have been talking about getting together to make a Pinterest-inspired project for weeks now. With the extra 'Labor' day and onset of Football season, we opted to make Arkansas Razorback wreaths for our front doors.

I did a little hunting around on Pinterest to find inspiration and found this and this. Using those as a start, we adapted and came up with two totally adorable wreaths!

I love how different our wreaths are. We had a great time putting them together!!

I didn't take step-by-step photos of the process as we both looked to some existing how-to videos and posts.  For my wreath, I wired 2 Styrofoam wreath forms together, the largest being 18 inches, and the smaller size fit perfectly in the center. I did this to give it a 'thicker' look. It took about 2 hours to wrap the grey yarn around to completely cover the foam. I used 2.5 Martha Stewart rolls of yarn - most other brands are sold larger and one would probably be enough. For the hog and football, I cut pieces of felt out using silhouette images downloaded from Google images. I also cut out matching pieces of thick black foam and mounted the shapes to the foam using hot glue (so it would be stiff instead of flimsy on the wreath). I followed this tutorial for flowers, but mixed and matched my technique so they wouldn't all be the same. I also found some cute tiny pre made felt flowers at Hancock's that had sparkly rhinestones in the center. I hot glued a few of these to the middle of some of the flowers. I hung the wreath outside using a simple grosgrain ribbon.

Meagan mostly followed these instructions to make the burlap bubbles. It was pretty easy to do and I'll definitely be using that technique soon for another wreath. It also took her about 2 hours to get the wreath covered in burlap bubbles. We used T pins to secure the burlap to the form as that held the best. Otherwise, small straight pins slip through the holes in the burlap. We also painted a flat dowel rod brown and hot glued to the base of the wreath. This allowed us to hot glue the letters in the center to something. For her pig, we added a curled pipe cleaner for the tail.

We had a blast, and I am already looking forward to next month's craft project. I have a feeling it will be Halloween related!
