I got my craft on this weekend. I was feeling inspired by Pinterest, loving the fall weather and realized my old fall wreath was looking pretty sad. I was at my parents' house for the weekend, so I enlisted the help of my wreath-wizard mother and we hit Michaels! Here is the result:
I must stay, I love how it turned out! I have it on the front porch for all to see. I can't wait to get some mums to add to the scene.
Here's the original inspiration and how we made it:
This one is from Williams-Sonoma and costs about $100. No way would I pay that amount for a wreath!! Plus, I needed one bigger than 16" for the front porch.
I decided I didn't want to use a grapevine wreath as it would be too craggly (is that a word?) and not smooth enough. Michaels didn't have a large foam base, so we opted for 2 straw wreaths and wired them together like so:
We used floral wire to secure it in four places.
If you make anything with a wreath like this, I recommend putting down a trash bag!
Next, we hot glued moss all over the wreath. I would squiggle hot glue in a section and carefully dab a bunch of the moss over it, and sometimes use a pencil to press it down without burning myself. I've read that a spray adhesive is good for moss, but we didn't think to try it.
Once the whole thing was covered, we covered the bottom of each pumpkin with hot glue and stuck it down really good on the wreath. These pumpkins came from Michael's, too, and were $4.00 a bag on sale (I bought 5 bags total). I looked at all of their pumpkins and these looked the nicest, and the rest were variety packs anyway.
I would recommend leaving your space for a ribbon in the same spot where there is a wire in the back. This just makes it easier to hang. Lastly, I finished it off with a satin bow.
That's my latest craft!!
Oh, and I've got pictures coming soon of the rest of our house in all its fall glory....stay tuned!
