Hello! Welcome to Keeping Up with the Joneses. Thanks for stopping by! We're a young couple living in the East Arkansas/Memphis area otherwise known as The Delta, with a love for family, friends, faith and food.

We believe that some of the best memories are created at home around the dinner table, and when entertaining those you love. This little blog is where I share recipes, wine, our home and our life. Enjoy! -Kendall

What You'll Find:

I love to try new recipes. In fact, I rarely make the same thing twice. I'm a bona-fide cookbook collector, Pinterest addict and magazine aficionado. On the blog, you'll see what I've got cooking.

I love wine, y'all, so from time to time I feature bottles I've loved. Crafts and decorating our little house are passions of mine, so you may see some of that. Thanks for stopping by!

Birthday Surprises

Happy Birthday to me!

It was a good weekend, y'all! I mean, any time your birthday falls on a weekend, it's bound to be great, right?

What can I tell you about it? Let me see.....

Mom sent me some beautiful roses earlier in the week. Just amazing!

One for every year! I have a feeling that might not happen the older I get! :)

I had a wonderful day at work on Friday! My sweet friends there game me lots of goodies and cards....

I really love my girls at the office. Which reminds me, I need to do a co-worker introduction on here. Anyway, about 9 of us went out for a sushi lunch- yummy! It meant so much to me to have them all there!!

Friday night, Keith and I went to our Viking class I was telling you about. Oh my goodness, this was so awesome!! It's kinda too pricey to do all the time, but we felt so special to get to go to one class. We made homemade crutons, Caesar dressing, creamed spinach (I made a roux for this...never done that!), strip steaks with a blue cheese butter, and bananas foster for dessert. It was a delightful experience :) I learned some handy tricks and tips, too.

So, the next day was my b-day! We slept in and Keith made a total man breakfast. Hey, I'm not complaining! We had maple bacon, great maple sausage, biscuits, homemade gravy, fried eggs and some fruit. Oh we were stuffed!!
And our house still smells a little like that yummy sausage. How do you get it to go away? We've tried everything...

Keith gave me his gift....

A beautiful cross for our house....

and money! I opened up the cards from family, and when it was all combined I had enough to go get my new camera!!! So, we went to Best Buy and picked out a good one!

OH Happy Day!! I was on cloud 9!

Now, granted, I have SO much to learn about all the settings and tricks, but for now I'm just really happy to have this new toy. The more I take, the better I'll get.

We had a little bit of time to kill, so we went down by the river on Mud Island and just took a few pictures for fun.

It was an overcast day, so you can't tell how neat it is down there to view the bridge and the mighty Mississippi...

Ok, so on to the next fun part! I had told my girl friends that I wanted to go to the Nail Bar and asked if anybody wanted to join. Kayla was the only one to respond, so I expected it to just be the 2 of us there.

But, when I walked in, everybody in the salon yelled "Surprise!!!". But, I didn't know any of the girls staring at me and smiling. So, I was totally confused for a few seconds!

But, I looked over to the left side of the room, and saw this:

And my 3 Memphis besties were standing there smiling at me!!! Oh, I was so surprised!!

Aren't they the sweetest things ever!!? I really can't imagine life without our little Memphis family of friends.

Cupcakes from Muddy's Bake Shop!

After we got pampered, we went back to the Sisco's where the party continued...

The boys were waiting with adorable birthday hats on. I haven't had a party like this in a while :)

Then it was time for our favorite activity, Corn Hole.

But, obviously the boys loved wearing the hats...

Travis...

And funny Mr. Chip...

It was a fun afternoon....

That night, we went to the Happy Mexican for fun food and drinks.

The hubbys. We're getting to where we just sit boys together and girls together instead of the girls talking over the boys to share a conversation :)

Margaritas all around!

Ok, so you know how most restaurants have some kind of cheesy wait-staff sing-a long for birthdays? Well, Happy Mexican has a few versions apparently...

So, there was another group celebrating a b-day, and while we were eating the staff came out and sang to her, brought dessert, and then tilted the girls head back and poured tequila down her throat!!!
That's when I turned to my friends and said please, no. Don't do that to me!!!
I don't do shots anymore and it would be very messy....

But, of course, they all grinned sheepishly with guilt. I knew it was coming......

So, they come out singing...put the large sombrero on my head...

So, I'm bracing myself for a head tilt, strong tequila, and a flash back to being in Cozumel on my senior year cruise.....

When.....

I got WHIP CREAM IN THE FACE.

Not a little. A LOT. A whip cream beard.

So shocked!!!

Everyone at my table, nay, the WHOLE restaurant was staring (and laughing) at my white beard.

SO, I laughed. After all, it was hilarious!

But, seriously, when was the last time I got pie in the face? I had to be under 10 years of age....

So, it was kinda crazy.... but I was a very, very good sport!!

Yes, my friends brought the birthday hats out in public!

All in all, it was a great day. I'm SO thankful to Keith for making my day so special and for my sweet Memphis friends.

Thanks also to the people that called me Saturday. I loved hearing your voices and messages :) Thanks for thinking of me!!
